DIY: Newspaper Nails

Hi Everyone,

So i’ve decided to make Monday the “Nail Day” on my blog. Therefore every Monday, I will show you what nail polish I am rocking that week. If i’ve got any nail art on, I will also share the how-to with you.
Today i’m rocking newspaper nails which look really fancy but trust me, it is really easy to achieve. It’s another nail art i found during my usual interweb up-turn.  I have worn this design on my nails before and I posted a photo on my Instagram. A number of people were quite curious as to how I had achieved the look.

Here’s what you need:

  • Nail Polish remover
  • Base Coat & Top Coat (I used NYC's Grand Central Station)
  • Base Colour - Any Light Coloured Nail Polish (I used Essie’s Chinchilly)
  • Newspaper cut up into 10 little squares big enough to fit on your nails
  • Methylated Spirit/ Alcohol (Vodka works very well but it works better in my glass :) )
  • Qtips to clean your edges
  • Wipe off any old nail polish from your nails
  • Prep your nails by filing and buffing them so that you have a smooth surface to work on
  • Paint your nails with your base coat

  • Apply two coats of your base colour.  It can be a light pink, blue, nude, grey or even white colour (Tip: Turn off your a/c or fan when you are painting your nails, this helps the polish apply better and prevents air bubbles from forming on the surface)
  • Let your nail polish dry completely. This is very crucial. I let mine dry for about an hour
Chinchilly is such a lovely colour to wear on its own sans any art

  • Pour your methylated spirit/ alcohol into a small bowl/dish. Dip one of your newspaper squares into it to wet it. Be careful not to let your nails come in contact with the spirit as it will smudge
  • Carefully place the newspaper square on your nail and hold it firmly in place for a few seconds. You will have to be really careful here as the newspaper tends to slip, thus smudging the ink on your nails, that’s no good
  • Press it down for a few seconds and then gently peel off the newspaper
  • Do the same for every nail
  • Finish off your nail art with your favourite topcoat as usual for shine and protection
  • Clean off any excess polish from around your cuticles with a q-tip dipped in nail polish remover
  • Rock your fancy nails :)

I told you it was really easy, you will have people thinking you’ve just had a really expensive nail salon appointment :)

Have fun with it!

Peace and Love,
