DIY: Polka Dot Nails

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all had a great weekend. In Nigeria, we are lucky to get two extra days of rest this week thanks to the muslim Eid celebrations.

This week I'm wearing polka dot nails. Polka dots are very popular this spring/summer fashion season so naturally this reflects in the nail art world. I recently joined Pinterest and I have seen so many lovely polka dot designs. So I decided to have a go at it and it turned out well, so I'm sharing the how-to with you guys.

Here's what you need to achieve this look:

  • Any colour nail polish (I used Models' own Feeling Blue)
  • White nail polish (I used a random one called Dierli)
  • Base Coat/Top Coat (I used Models' own 3-in-1)
  • A pencil with an eraser at the bottom
  • A pin
  • Nail polish remover
  • Qtips
What to do:
  • Prep your nails by cleaning off any remaining nail polish, file into shape and buff them to make them shine
  • Apply your base coat
  • Apply two coats of chosen nail polish colour and allow it to dry completely

  • Stick the pin into the eraser at the bottom of the pencil. Make sure that the pin is straight and in the centre of the eraser to get better shaped dots
  • Pour some of the white polish into a dish and dip the end of the pin into it

  • Place the dots on your nails in whatever pattern you choose, going back into the white nail polish now and again
  • Clean your cuticles with a qtip dipped in nail polish remover
  • Finish off your nail art with a top coat to protect it and add shine

If you don't want the polka dots on all your nails, you can choose to tone it down by dotting only your ring finger on both hands. I can imagine how lovely these nails will look in other colours like purple, pink, light green, grey and even black! Have fun with it :-)

Peace and Love,

Y.
