Beauty Battles #7: The Face Mask

Hello there!

Right! So on today's beauty battles, i'll be putting two face masks up against each other. Although they are both drugstore brands, I think some of you might still be interested in a comparison.

Clean & Clear Deep Action Cleansing Mask

I've never met a Clean&Clear product I didn't like, so when I saw this on one of my usual shop rounds, you can bet that I pushed everyone out of the way and grabbed it. It is an oil free mask that is supposed to reach deep into the various layers of your skin to throughly cleanse, ridding it of all its impurities and excess oils.

It has a gentle creamy consistency that is easily worked into the face. A few seconds after I put it on, I felt a tingling sensation but not in a bad way. It felt like the mask was really working to cleanse my face. I left it on for about 10 minutes (within which the mask had changed from blue to white) and then washed it off with warm water. The change in colour indicates that the mask has finished doing it's work.
I use it once a week and it leaves my face feeling very clean and baby soft. I must mention though that it dries out my face a little so I have to properly moisturise afterwards. I won't recommend it for dry skin, you may need a more moisture intensive mask.

I think Clean & Clear has discontinued this product (*bitter tears*) but I was lucky to get it from Shoprite for N850. It is a great bargain but you only get a miserable 60mls of product! In the UK, I would look in one of the discount beauty stores, they often have little (discontinued) gems like this in stock.

Neutrogena Pore Refining Mask

Neutrogena is another skincare brand that has my heart. I have used a number of their products for many years and they work well for me. Thus I didn't hesitate to try this mask, since I trust the brand. I was particularly interested in it's "pore refining" properties because my pores are quite visible, you see.

It is described as a cooling, gel mask which felt quite strange as it's not what I'm used to at all. It says to use it after cleansing which I don't quite understand, aren't masks supposed to have cleansing properties? I cleansed my face with my Boots Botanics Cleansing Milk and then applied this mask all over my face in circular motions. It has quite a distinctive scent though not unpleasant. It says to leave it on for five minutes which I did, then washed it off with warm water. I found that it wasn't very easy to wash off because of it's gel-like nature.
Though my face felt cleansed, I didn't really notice any difference in the appearance of my pores and the tube promises instant results. I'll use it a few more times though and see what happens.

Buy it from any of the Casabella stores in Lagos for N650 or on Amazon for $7.99 here

My undisputed winner is Clean&Clear Deep Action Cleansing Mask. Although they are both budget friendly mask options, I feel like the Clean&Clear mask is true to its description, it really does deep clean the skin. I am definitely going back to the store this weekend to stock up on it.

Crown's back by popular demand :)

Anyone tried either mask? What are your thoughts? If you would also like to share your favourite masks, please do.

Peace and Love,
