I recently went to dinner at a little french restaurant and I decided to take some pictures and write up a full review, because I love y'all :)
So a little background before the main review. We were looking for somewhere nice to go for date night and a friend recommended Casa Lydia to me so we drove on down there. When I entered the place I almost had a heart attack. Don't get me wrong but it wasn't what I expected at all. It was like a pub, with loud music, people hanging by the bar, making merriment. I asked if they had a quieter section upstairs or something which they didn't. My face had just fallen when the waiter mentioned that they have a more private restaurant run by the same management just adjacent to the building. We sped there before he could even finish speaking, lol!
And that is how we came upon Restaurant La Provence. It is a relatively small and cute space which I really liked, felt very private. There was nice music playing in the background, loud enough to enjoy but low enough to not be a nuisance. The layout and decor is quite nice with a few lovely art pieces and lights scattered around. I'm really big on decor so any restaurant that gets decorating right is well on it's way to winning my heart.
We ordered drinks and they came right on time. The chapman was yummy! The complimentary bread rolls were a bit delayed, we had to wait about 20 mins, perhaps they were baking fresh bread? O_o
We decided to share a starter, to reserve space for the main business! We went for "Shrimp rolled in potatoes with salad exotic". I was eager to see what it would look like but when it came it just looked like shrimp in batter, nothing over the top. The salad however was very nice, fresh vegetables and a tasty dressing.
For mains I ordered "Gordon bleu ala Francaise" and he ordered ""Baracuda Pochied in champagne sauce with pork-choi served with Basmati rice. Pretty fancy names, I must say! The meals followed immediately after the starter.
When my meal arrived I was highly underwhelmed, I mean it just looked like plain old fish and chips! And then his Baracuda meal came in all it's glory and I was well jel! Anyone else get mad when someone else's order looks better than yours?Grr...
Despite that I really enjoyed my meal. The chips were done just the way I like it crispy but tender inside. The chicken(that looks like fish) was quite tasty, it had ham and melted cheese in the middle, yum!
He enjoyed his baracuda meal and I couldn't help but dig into it a little, greedy! The champagne sauce was creamy and delicious and the rice was cooked just right. I'm not the biggest fan of fish but this one was nicely spiced. His meal definitely trumped mine..boo!
|Tried to show you the ham and cheese in between :)|
In summary, the food was nice and I liked the atmosphere of privacy. I must warn that it's a tad pricey though. Considering we shared a starter and skipped dessert(shocking!), our total bill of around N14000 led to some raised brows. I wouldn't say it is totally worth the money but if you are looking to splurge a little and to try some place new this Christmas, then I recommend you give them a try.
