Party Look 1: Smokey Eyes & Nude Lips

Hey!

If you are having trouble deciding which makeup looks to wear this party season, I'll be sharing a few easy-to create looks here.

The first look is the classic smokey eyes/nude lips a la Kim Kardashian. It's a makeup look you can get done in about 30mins because it features two basic eye colours, black and brown. It's optional to add a gold-ish eyeshadow to highlight some areas of the eye.

Eyes

I applied a primer all over the lid to prevent my eyeshadows from creasing. I patted a black eyeshadow all over the lid and blended it into the crease. I then applied a brown eyeshadow as a transition and a gold eyeshadow as a brow highlight. I used the same gold eyeshadow to highlight my inner-tear duct area.

Products Used

  • Eye Primer-W7 Magic Prime (review here)
  • Lid & Crease- Mac Carbon
  • Transition- Mac Embark
  • Brow bone & Inner Tear Duct- Mac Amber Lights
  • Eyeliner- L'Oreal Superliner Carbon Gloss
  • Waterline- Model's own Kohl Pencil
  • Mascara- Maybelline's Falsies in Blackest Black

Lips

Nothing works better with smokey eyes than a nude lip, so I went with my favourite nude lip products

Products Used
  • Mac Honeylove lipstick
  • Mac Viva Glam V lipgloss

Other Products Used
  • Foundation- Revlon Colorstay Foundation in Caramel (review here)
  • Under Eye Concealer- Mac Prolongwear Concealer in NC45
  • To set Under Eye Concealer- Sleek Translucent Loose Powder in Light
  • Brows- Mac Spiked Pencil and Embark
  • Blush- Sleek Flushed & Sunrise
  • Contour and Highlight- Sleek Face Contour Kit in Medium (review here)
  • Powder- Sleek Translucent Loose Powder in Light

What do you think of the look? Will you be wearing something similar these holidays?

Peace and Love,

Christmas Nails: Get This Party Started

Hi Guys,

How did the weekend go? I went to my first official Christmas do and I rocked some really sparkly nails and everyone kept complimenting them. This is literally the easiest manicure you can create to turn up your nail game this season.

Products Used

I went for a gold nail polish which is festive without being too obvious in the way red or green would. I used OPI's Bling Dynasty which is honestly the most beautiful gold I've seen. Some gold nail polishes tend to look cheap and over the top but this one just looks really luxurious. Bling Dynasty is gold with bronze undertones making it easier to wear. The formula of the polish is also really nice and spreads evenly. However, I had to apply three coats for full opacity.
I then applied Deborah Lippmann's Happy Birthday glitter polish which is really beautiful to look at. It's different from any other glitter polish I own. It has multicoloured hexagonal bits of glitter in it, so gorgeous. I will definitely be featuring it in more manicures on this blog.

I bought both nail polishes from Blush Beauty Salon (1388, Tiamiyu Savage, VI). They have a lovely nail polish selection, so go check them out if you're in Lagos. Otherwise they are sold in House of Fraser in the UK. If you can't get your hands on these polishes in particular, any gold polish and a nice multicoloured glitter will do. Just get those nails sparkly for Christmas, girl!

My Total Body Skincare Routine

Hi Everyone,

Okay we are all excited it's Christmas and everywhere in our physical and online world is under Christmas-attack. I figured I would give you guys a break and type a post that isn't in the least bit Christmassy.

When I first started blogging one of the things I shared was my facial skincare routine (see here). Since then, I have had people email me to ask what products I use and recommend for the rest of the body. One of my blog readers in particular @ZinnieP has been requesting this post for the longest but I never got round to doing it till now :-)

I try lot of skincare products but there are only a few that I have used for a while now and I highly recommend.
Imperial Leather Foam Burst

When it comes to bath products, I like to keep it simple. I enjoy looking at all the fancy smelling bath bombs and stuff at Lush but I always stick to my trusty Foamburst. It is a delicious smelling gel that foams really well, true to it's name. I can't stand bath products that just do not lather well. It also does not leave any of that greasiness that's common with bath gels. It comes in about five variants but my favourite by far is the Japanese spa, the scent is really calming.
I was elated to find it in Lagos at Medplus for N900 so I grabbed all the cans on the shelf(as usual). If you're in the UK get it from Boots here for £3.49.

St Ives Apricot Body Scrub

Once a week, I like to exfoliate the rest of my body like I would my face. The St Ives Scrub is just awesome for that. I have played around with different body scrubs but this remains my favourite. It gets rid of old. flaky skin without being too harsh and it always leaves my skin looking and feeling soft and shiny. I find it particularly helpful around this period of really dry weather in Nigeria.
Get it on Konga for N1150 here or in your local beauty store.

Vaseline Aloe Fresh Protecting Lotion with SPF15

Vaseline has been doing skincare for eons and they do it right for me. This lotion is very moisturising but not in a greasy way at all. It is easily absorbed into the skin and is perfect for the hot climate in this region. You wouldn't want to use a lotion that is really heavy and doesn't absorb well, you would be stewing in your own sweaty juices in an hour! The crowning glory of this lotion is that it has SPF. Y'all know how emotional I get when it comes to SPF-talk so I won't start but yeah, it is pretty awesome.
I'm not sure this product is ready available in the UK as I couldn't seem to find it online. My sister bought me some from Walmart in the US but I have spotted it in HealthPlus a few times for around N1500.

Bio-Oil

I'm sure you don't need me to review Bio-Oil, you must be aware of it's awesomeness already right? If you have really dry skin, use it alone as a lotion and you will notice a difference in a short while. I sometimes mix it in with my regular lotion for extra moisture. It makes my skin feel so soft and healthy, I love this stuff. There are claims that it helps with stretch marks, scars, burns etc, I can't attest to that but I can attest to it's moisturising power!

Avon Cellu-Defy Intensive Anti-Cellulite Lotion

I nicked this cream from my mum's stash and I have been using it for a while now. I apply it on my thighs every other day. Does it prevent/cure cellulite? No! Does it make me feel better anyway? Yes!

Soltan Moisturising Suncare Lotion SPF50

Although my regular lotion has SPF15, that is not nearly enough protection for the skin especially in the sweltering conditions we live in. I use a sunscreen lotion daily and apply it sparingly all over my already moisturised body especially on areas that are exposed. The Soltan lotion absorbs very easily and doesn't leave the white film that usually comes from sunscreen. This is because it isn't just a sunscreen but a moisturising lotion, win-win. I usually get mine in the UK from Boots, buy here

So that's my simple total body routine. Sometimes I switch from the Vaseline lotion to Palmers Olive Butter Lotion with SPF15 which is also a great product that I highly recommend. What products do you treat your skin to? Share if you care :-)

Restaurant Review: Restaurant La Provence

Hi Guys,

I recently went to dinner at a little french restaurant and I decided to take some pictures and write up a full review, because I love y'all :)

So a little background before the main review.  We were looking for somewhere nice to go for date night and a friend recommended Casa Lydia to me so we drove on down there. When I entered the place I almost had a heart attack. Don't get me wrong but it wasn't what I expected at all. It was like a pub, with loud music, people hanging by the bar, making merriment. I asked if they had a quieter section upstairs or something which they didn't. My face had just fallen when the waiter mentioned that they have a more private restaurant run by the same management just adjacent to the building. We sped there before he could even finish speaking, lol!

And that is how we came upon Restaurant La Provence. It is a relatively small and cute space which I really liked, felt very private. There was nice music playing in the background, loud enough to enjoy but low enough to not be a nuisance. The layout and decor is quite nice with a few lovely art pieces and lights scattered around. I'm really big on decor so any restaurant that gets decorating right is well on it's way to winning my heart.

We ordered drinks and they came right on time. The chapman was yummy! The complimentary bread rolls were a bit delayed, we had to wait about 20 mins, perhaps they were baking fresh bread? O_o

We decided to share a starter, to reserve space for the main business! We went for "Shrimp rolled in potatoes with salad exotic". I was eager to see what it would look like but when it came it just looked like shrimp in batter, nothing over the top. The salad however was very nice, fresh vegetables and a tasty dressing.

For mains I ordered "Gordon bleu ala Francaise" and he ordered ""Baracuda Pochied in champagne sauce with pork-choi served with Basmati rice. Pretty fancy names, I must say! The meals followed immediately after the starter.
When my meal arrived I was highly underwhelmed, I mean it just looked like plain old fish and chips! And then his Baracuda meal came in all it's glory and I was well jel! Anyone else get mad when someone else's order looks better than yours?Grr...

.

Despite that I really enjoyed my meal. The chips were done just the way I like it crispy but tender inside. The chicken(that looks like fish) was quite tasty, it had ham and melted cheese in the middle, yum!
He enjoyed his baracuda meal and I couldn't help but dig into it a little, greedy! The champagne sauce was creamy and delicious and the rice was cooked just right. I'm not the biggest fan of fish but this one was nicely spiced. His meal definitely trumped mine..boo!

Tried to show you the ham and cheese in between :)

In summary, the food was nice and I liked the atmosphere of privacy. I must warn that it's a tad pricey though. Considering we shared a starter and skipped dessert(shocking!), our total bill of around N14000 led to some raised brows. I wouldn't say it is totally worth the money but if you are looking to splurge a little and to try some place new this Christmas, then I recommend you give them a try.

Address: 19, Glover Road, Ikoyi

Peace and Love,
