Product Review & Giveaway | John Frieda Frizz-Ease Miraculous Recovery Intensive Masque

Ever since I found out that I have low porosity hair, I have been able to give my hair the kind of attention it needs to stay healthy and growing. One of the essential things in a low-po's hair regimen is MOISTURE hence Deep Conditioners are our best friends. But alas, it has taken me ages to find a deep conditioner that my hair loves (will tell you about this super-duper condish in a different post).

But my friends over at Sizzelle very kindly sent me a deep conditioner to try out with the promise that I will love it.

I'm not going to lie, when I saw it was John Freida, I thought "Heyyy, John doesn't know a thing about black hair! How is this going to work???"... Boy was I wrong! My hair drank this conditioner up like a thirsty dog at a fresh spring!

What I really like about it is the consistency- thick but still able to penetrate the hair strands. I applied it and put on my heating cap for about 30mins and when I was washing it off, my hair felt like butter in my hands- no jokes. I'm currently 10 weeks post-relaxer and we all know the buttery feeling is a luxury at this stage when the new growth is thickening.

Now to the ultimate question- does this conditioner beat my Holy Grail one? It doesn't but it comes pretty pretty close. So close that I shall be alternating them weekly- my hair really likes this stuff!

So the people at Sizzelle want to give away two tubs of this amazing conditioner to my blog readers on twitter. All you have to do is follow me- @Yewizzy and Sizzelle- @sizzellestore and leave a comment below saying "My hair needs to try this!" and also your twitter handle. :) The competition is open for 5 days only and two winners will be chosen with a random number generator. I will then announce names on my twitter page on Friday 20th December.

Good-luck! :)

Peace and Love,

Y.

Makeup Review | New Purchases from MAC

Hi Guys,

Today I'm sharing some more items I picked up while on holiday. What's a holiday if you don't make a "quick" stop at MAC? :)

Mac Mineralise Skinfinish in Gold Deposit

This is one of those products from MAC that is ADORED by beauty-lovers all over the world. It is a highlighting powder that helps bring a "glow" to your cheekbones, bridge of your nose etc. I just had to pick it up to understand the hype.

Suffice it to say, I was underwhelmed- I do not get the hype. I mean all this product seems to me is a goldish-orange blusher. Yes, it did bring a glow to my cheekbones yaddi yaddi ya, but it's nothing I couldn't have gotten from one of my gold-toned blushes.

It cost me the equivalent of $30 and after one use I don't think it's worth the money but we'll see.

Mac Eyebrow Crayon in Spiked

This one was a re-purchase because I simply can not find another brow pencil as good as Spiked. I have tried and failed, they are usually not a true brown (i.e yucky red undertone), I'm never able to get a clean line and never ever able to get a perfect thinned out brow tail!

I have two problems with Spiked though:

1) The pencil is not retractable so when once you twist it up it can't go back in.I'm not sure what Mac's thinking is with this but it is horrible because the pencil is always breaking. If you buy this pencil remember to only twist it up to the barest minimum
2) The price! $20 for a brow pencil, really Mac, really???

Do you guys know any cheaper brow pencils that could potentially meet up to my expectations? :)

Mac Lipstick in Diva

You know one of those lipsticks that have been around before but you never just got round to trying them? Diva was kind of like that for me, I heard so much about it but I just never bothered to try it on. When I finally did, I loved it. This lipstick is the bomb! I'll let the pictures speak for themselves...

Wearing Diva lipstick, Gold Deposit on my cheekbones

I particularly love it because it is in my all time favourite finish, matte with characteristic features, high pigmentation and long lasting. This is definitely going to be my go-to lipstick for a while, a red I can wear to work without looking crazy, not like I care..haha..

What Mac goodies have you purchased recently?

Peace and Love,

Y.

Perfume Review | Giorgio Armani Sì

Hello Blog-Friends,

I haven't done a perfume review on this blog in a long time simply because I haven't bought/been gifted any perfumes recently. However, things turned around recently when I went away on holiday and came upon the fragrance that is known as Si by Giorgio Armani!

Behold the latest Fall 2013 feminine fragrance release from the Casa D'Armani. In the words of the master himself Sir Giorgio... "Sì is my tribute to modern femininity, an irresistible combination of grace, strength and independent spirit.

Well, I don't think he could have captured what exactly Sì is any better. Most perfumes tend to lean towards the fruity or musky side but this perfume is the perfect balance between the two. Very feminine but in a "you-don't-want-to-mess-with-me" kind of way hence Giorgio's reference to a strong and independent woman.

I'm not the best at describing perfume scents i.e base notes, top notes and all that jazz but this immediately brings to mind blackcurrant with a mix of floral scents and warm vanilla. After a few hours when it has dried down, it becomes a musky woody scent whilst still holding on to some of it's sweetness!

This perfume is going to be BIG for Christmas so I would advise that you pop it right at the top of your list. If you are like me though and have the sticky-paw syndrome then i'll be here cheering you on whilst you make a dash for the shops- "bricks or clicks" :)

It's worth noting that this perfume is kind of on the pricey side. I didn't fret it though because it is totally worth every damn dime! I bought it in Dubai for Dhs550 which is approximately $180 and £100 but it was for the 100ml bottle, I say not too bad.

Now let me tell you one of the disadvantages of the sticky-paw-syndrome previously mentioned- we see, we like, we buy, no thought processing involved! Guess what? This perfume was being sold at Duty Free for a little under Dhs400! Massive savings of around $50 that I could have taken advantage of had I just been a little wiser but hey, it's all good :) So don't be like me, you can buy this perfume in Duty Free if you will be travelling anytime soon :)

In summary, Sì by Giorgio Armani:

Fragrance 1
Packaging 1
Length of Wear 1
Price 0

Therefore it gets a SheLovesTheFinerThings rating of 3/4.

Will you be trying Sì? What other fragrances have you been loving lately?

Peace and Love,

Recipe: Healthy Homemade Granola

Happy September!

2013 is moving so fast, its scary but exciting all at the same time. I go on holiday in October, (whoop whoop) so September is my #EatClean #TrainDirty month. Need to get that *ahem* bikini-bod.

I'm the biggest fan of granola especially the yummy bars from Nature Valley. But like most things that are store-bought, there is a lot of processed sugar in it so I researched and found out that granola is one of the easiest things you can make! No, seriously...

What You Need

A lot of granola recipes call for unhealthy stuff such as sugar and vegetable oil but I made sure I kept my ingredients clean and all natural...

  • 4 cups of rolled wholegrain oats (not instant or quick cook)
  • 1/2 cup of coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup of natural honey
  • 1/2 cup of chopped almond nuts
  • 1/2 cup of any seeds you like (I used pumpkin, sunflower and chia)
  • 1/2 cup of raisins
  • 1 tbsp of butterscotch essence

What to Do
  • Heat oven to 170C or 350F
  • Pour coconut oil and honey in a saucepan and let simmer on low heat
  • Combine dry ingredients- oats, seeds and nuts
  • Pour oil and honey mix over the dry ingredients and fold until thoroughly combined
  • Add the butterscotch essence
  • Line baking tray with baking sheet or foil paper, grease lightly
  • Spread mix on the baking tray and place in oven for 30mins, stirring after 15mins to make sure its properly cooked through
  • When your granola looks golden brown, it's just right
  • Take out baking tray and add in your raisins
  • Allow granola to cool (it becomes crunchy) and store in airtight container
  • Serve with yoghurt and fruit or on it's on as a healthy snack
Granola and Yoghurt makes for a healthy breakfast, lunch or dinner

Trust me this stuff is so yummy, it will have you doing a little dance while you munch on it..I know I did :)

Let me know if you want more healthy eating related posts this month of September and I'll be happy to share.

Peace and Love,

For the love of Jewellery | Décolleté Fashion Lounge

Hello Ladies!

I had been looking for knuckle rings around these ends for the longest time. They just seemed impossible to find! I actually found one store on Instagram that had some nice looking rings but omg- their customer service was beyond appalling. I actually planned on naming and shaming them in this post but they are not even worth it.

So when I saw my friend Ezinne of BeautyinLagos post about Décolleté , I was like "YASSS"!

What I ordered

I had a hard time choosing what to order because everything on their catalogue is pretty damn gorgeous! I finally settled for- R16, R20, B1 in Gold, R24, B5.

R20- N2500

R20 is my favourite of the bunch. The design is a very unique cut and I like that it's thicker than the other rings.

R24- N2000

When I saw R24 in the catalogue, I didn't realise that it was a snake o_O. It's a cute ring but i'm still trying to decide if I should keep wearing it, i'm not trying to have nightmares :( What do you think?

R16- N2000

R16 is a bunch of 3 knuckle rings that can be worn stacked, or on different fingers. It will look great stacked with other knuckle rings as well.

B1- N1500

Bracelets

B1 in Gold

B1 is a really cute ring and bracelet combo. I really like it but I think it's a little OTT for everyday jewellery. I'll probably rock it when I'm going somewhere fancy :)

B5- N3000

Meet B5, the belle of the ball! Really gorgeous feather bracelet. Feathers/Dreamcatchers are one of my favourite jewellery designs, so I had to get this one. I'm wearing it to a wedding today :)

How to order

You can order jewellery from Décolleté by having a look at their catalogue here. When you make your pick, send an email to decollete.sales@gmail.com. Their website will be launching next month though, so keep an eye out for www.shopDFL.com

You can also follow them on Twitter and Instagram- @ShopDecollete

I must say that I had a pleasurable experience with this company. They have great jewellery in really cute but effective packaging. Your order even comes with a jewellery care card, so you can increase the life span of your items. For me, it's the little details that make a difference.
Oh and  their customer service is impeccable! They even gave me a discount for attending to my inquiry slightly late!? Oh and I got a lovely bejewelled compact mirror as a gift..What more can I say?

Will you be ordering bits off Décolleté? I'd love to know what you order, just so I can check it out myself if I don't have it already..greedy!

Introducing Luxebox..Nigeria's 1st Beauty Subscription Service

If you are like me, you would have done the happy dance when you read the title of this post. Yes! We now have our very own beauty subscription service in Nigeria, a la Glossybox!

I was super chuffed when I was contacted by the company to try out the August Luxebox as well as become an exclusive partner :)

Luxebox is a beauty subscription service that allows beauty lovers like myself, the chance to try out new products every month for 3500 naira! Now I'm sure I don't need to tell you how much of an awesome bargain this is, I mean you probably can't get one tube of mascara for 3500 naira around these ends.

Unlike many other beauty boxes that provide product samples, Luxebox is committed to proving 4-5 full size products with every box. The company only stocks well known drugstore brands such as Maybelline, Revlon, L'Oreal etc so you can be sure that you won't be receiving random beauty products, only the best.

August Luxebox

My August Luxebox came with four full sized beauty products. The contents of the beauty box of the month may vary slightly per customer but the total value of products is always  comparable. Here's what was in mine...

I received- Revlon Nail Polish in All Fired Up, Maybelline Moisture Extreme Lipstick in Anemone, Revlon Lip gloss in Nude Lustre and L'Oreal Super Liner Luminizer in Hazel Eyes. I have already started to use these products so expect to see them featuring in upcoming posts.

Lipstick, Gloss and Eyeliner swatched at the back of my hand

How to subscribe to LuxeBox

Now I know at this point all you want to know is "How can I start getting my LuxeBoxes?!?". Well here's how...
  • Subscribe here by providing your details and delivery information
  • Order your LuxeBox by the cut-off date specified to ensure delivery (The cut-off date for the August Luxebox is Sunday the 4th of August)
  • You will be given a unique LuxeCode which can be used for future orders
  • Once your order is processed, you will be sent an estimated delivery date
  • All LuxeBox  orders are sent out at the same time and payment is made on delivery
  • Receive your LuxeBox by showing a valid ID to delivery staff. Share box contents with your friends or not!
This service is very exclusive, aiming to cater to a select number of beauty lovers every month (think of it as a members only beauty club). Therefore, if you are interested, you would need to get your orders in before the cut off date every month when you receive email notifications of new boxes.

Again, the cut-off date for the August Luxebox is Sunday, 4th of August, you will not receive a box if you order after this date.

Currently, Luxebox is only available in Lagos but there are plans to expand to other cities in the country soon. For more info, check out their website at www.luxebox.info

Will you be subscribing to Luxebox?
