Product Review | Jakeala Skincare

Hey Guys!

First off, we have reached over 100,000 views on this little blog in less than a year! Wow, I'm beyond blown. I'm sending out big hugs and kisses to every single reader, you guys are the bestest and I'm planning a giveaway soon:). Also, as you may have heard, Google has plans to shut down its reader in the coming months. If you never want to miss a single post on "She Loves The Finer Things" please follow on Bloglovin here.

On to the business of the day- I was recently sent some skincare products to review by the lovely people from Jakeala. They are an American skin care brand (recently launched in Nigeria) with hair care products, lip balms, lotions, bath products (wash, hand crafted yummy soaps & bath oils), massage oils and baby products. The brand boasts that all their products are made from the finest natural ingredients so I was really keen on trying the samples.

They very nicely sent me three samples which I tried over a period of two weeks before reviewing here.

White Chocolate Raspberry Mini Cupcake Soap

I think this is one of the cutest and yummiest looking bath soaps ever. Doesn't it just look like it's ready to be gobbled up? When I wasn't thinking of eating it and using it in the bathroom, I really enjoyed it. It smells really yummy and left my skin feeling really moisturised. I was afraid that the cupcake shape wouldn't hold up after it's been exposed to water but it did! This one is definitely  a winner for me, reminds me of something I would see in Lush- one of my favourite stores.

Creme Brulee Soap

This one on the other hand is not so visually appealing. I'm not sure why it's called Creme Brûlée because it looks and smells nothing like that. However, I also enjoyed using it, very moisturising and lathers well.

Pumpkin Cheesecake Lipbalm

I'm not sure there's much to say about a lip balm, lol. Basically, it kept my lips from feeling dry and smelled nice while at it! It's up to the standard of any of the big lipbalm brands out there I would say.

Overall, I would say that I enjoyed using these products and my skin was happy. I would definitely be looking to try other things from their wide range of products. However, it would be great if they could improve on packaging, just to take it a notch higher on the value scale.

Jakeala products can be found at:

NOTW | Ice Ice Baby!

Hi Everyone,

Like I mentioned previously, I haven't done a nail post in ages because my nails have been in TERRIBLE shape. I don't know if it's the weather or a hater of my long, beautiful nails at work but I have really been having a hard time growing them. I've taken the bull by the horn though and I'm furiously treating my nails hoping to restore them to past glory.

This week, I'm wearing a lovely nude nail polish I bought recently. I have been hunting for the perfect one forever and I think I may have found it!

Continuing in the new found love for all things Revlon, meet Iced Mocha, a gorgeous nudey-brown nail polish. I have nothing bad to say about it; the colour suits my skin tone perfectly, the brush is the perfect size so it applies perfectly and it dries really fast, even though it is not advertised as a quick-dry polish.

I love it like a fat kid loves burgers and totally recommend it. It also covers the nail completely in one coat but I applied two, for good measure. There are claims that the polishes are chip-resistant but we'll have to see about that. Grabbed it in South Africa for about 30 rands but sells Revlon nail polishes for 750naira! Over in the Queen's terrain it's around 7pounds.

To end this post, here's one of the products I've been using to try and build my nails back- Orly Tough Cookie Nail Strengthening treatment. I use it as a base coat and top coat and apply it about two times in the week. I'll try it out for about a month and report back to you lovely people if I see any major improvements.

What nail treatments do you recommend? I'd love to try some other products :)

Peace and Love,

Review | Revlon 9 Super Lustrous Lip Cube

Hi Guys!

I know, I know, I have been a horrible blogger lately- I apologise. I have been travelling for work and haven't had two minutes to myself. As always, I happened to pick up some new makeup on my trip which I plan to share here. Today, I bring to you a review of *drum roll*- Revlon 9 Super Lustrous Lip Cube.

Now, Revlon is a brand that is slowly but surely stealing my heart away(per previous Colorstay foundation raving on here). I hadn't managed to try out any of their lipsticks though until I bought this set so understandably I couldn't wait to throw it in my bag.

It contains 9 full size lipsticks (like I need anymore!), 7 of which are pearl finish and 2 are creme finish. The pearl finish lipsticks are very similar to the Mac frost finish lipsticks. They have a silvery/shimmery undertone and require a few decent swipes to get full opacity. The other two creme finish lipsticks are more pigmented and vibrant.

Iced Amethyst: This is a deep purple shade with silver undertones. It's like an shimmery version of Mac's Rebel. It's a pretty colour and one of the popular shades from the brand.

Softsilver Rose: It is a icy pink colour that I think may suit lighter skin tones better. Definitely not for me, It just makes me look weird -_-

Wine with Everything: The name gives the shade away, a wine lipstick that will suit most skin tones. If you are not really into the loudness of red lipsticks, this is a slightly muted option. Wine lipstick shades tend to look old lady-ish but not this one, it's gorgeous!

Coffee Bean: I can see this lipstick complementing a range of skin tones because it is so versatile. It can almost pass for a my lips but better(MLBB) lipstick but if you're going for a more intense look, add a few more layers. I'd describe it as a medium brown shade with copper undertones.

Love That Red:This is the star of the collection! A vibrant red lipstick that will look beautiful on any skin tone I believe. It's a red shade like nothing I've seen before. I don't know how to explain what's different but I love it. It's also great if you would rather not spend money on higher end (and played out) reds like Ruby Woo and the like.

Rum Raisin: Another favourite from the set. It's pretty hard for me to describe the colour but I would say a deep pink almost leaning to a light red. It's like a more intense version of one of my favourite Mac lipsticks, Modesty. It's a great lipstick for everyday wear, I can picture it going with many different makeup looks.

Blushed: Blushed is another MLBB lipstick in the pack. A nude beige colour that makes your lips look pretty whilst still looking natural.  If you are not a lipstick kind of girl but looking to explore, this would be a good place to start :)

Blushing Mauve:It's a pretty pink lipstick without the drama. Perfect for daytime makeup. It is a pretty similar shade to Mac's Hot Gossip

Champagne on Ice: This one I'm also not too keen on. The shimmery nude shade just does't work for me, it's hard to pull off. I might try layering it with other lipsticks in my stash to find some use for it.

More Pictures and Swatches

L-R: Coffee Bean, Iced Amethyst, Blushing Mauve, ,Softsilver Rose, Champagne on Ice, Blushed, Love that Red, Wine with Everything, Rum Raisin

Overall, I would say the lipsticks are very good value for money. Apart from the pigmentation being decent, I was really impressed with the formula. The lipsticks glide on very easily and feel very moisturising to the lips. I only wish that most of them weren't frost finish as that's not really my cup of tea.

This product is a travel exclusive and can only be bought at duty free in airports and inflight. I paid 50dollars for it which is a massive bargain for 9 lipsticks. Next time you are travelling, keep your eye out for this if you're interested. Otherwise, you can step into your local beauty store and pick up any of the shades. There's a Revlon stand in Casabella for Lagos residents and one in Boots & Superdrug for UK residents.

Which lipstick shades are your favourite from the bunch?

Peace and Love,
