Much Ado about EOS….

EOS lip balms are kind of like the Rolls Royce of lip balms…or so they have been marketed to the beauty industry. They have received quite a number of celebrity endorsements with the QUEEN, Kim Kardashian's being the most impactful. In 2013, she tweeted- "Pregnancy lips….@EOS to the rescue! LOL", can you imagine how much in sales the company made that day? Sigh!

Ever one to give in to a beauty hype, of course I jumped in :) Forgive the crusty looking pack, this had been lying in my makeup drawer for a while *face palm*

I have tried a number of variants but the one in this post is the Blueberry Acai. Some others are Raspberry Pomegranate, Strawberry Sorbet and Summer Fruit.

The company says "eos lip balm is 95% organic, 100% natural, and paraben and petrolatum free. Packed with antioxidant-rich vitamin E, soothing shea butter and jojoba oil, eos keeps your lips moist, soft and sensationally smooth."

My Thoughts

Ingredients: I'm starting to appreciate the value of organic/natural beauty products these days so that makes EOS score high points from me in this regard. 95%organic and 100% natural is pretty damn good. No nast paragons and the evil ingredient PETROLATUM!  Many beauty companies put this stuff in their products because it is dirt cheap and increases volume but it is useless and some people even say harmful. Many lip balms (cough cough at Vaseline) have petrolatum and it has zero moisturising properties. All it does is form a thick layer over your skin and prevent any moisture from getting in; same effect it has on the hair when hair products contain it.

Formula: I suffer from dry/chapped lips so lip balm business is very serious business for me. If your moisturising game is not on lock down then I won't even bother. EOS balms are extremely moisturising and last a decent 2-3hours before requiring reapplication. What I particularly appreciate with this balm is the fact that it moisturises without leaving a residue and your lips be looking like you just consumed a plate of oily dodo. I have this issue with a lot of lip balms even the famous Burt's Bees and it is a deal breaker for me. I don't know how EOS is able to achieve this but i'm loving it!

Price: It goes for about N1200 a pop which is slightly more expensive than your average lip balm. So million dollar question- Is it worth the hype/price??? For me, yes! I love these balms because  my lips have definitely seen a great improvement since I have been using it. Smoother, softer and much less chapping. EOS actually stands for "Evolution of Smooth", cocky aren't they? haha!
