REVIEW | EMMAUS BEAUTY SKINCARE PRODUCTS

The people over at Emmaus Beauty were kind enough to send me a three-step skincare package with the core products in the line- Smiling Beads Body Wash, Touch of Love Exfoliating Liquid and Softness Bliss Body Lotion. Thanks for your generosity guys! I have been using the products for over a month now and here are my thoughts...

About the Brand

"Emmaus Skincare was created as a solution to my own skin problem. I suffer from a condition known as Keratosis Pilaris (KP), more commonly referred to as “chicken skin”. KP produces a goose bump type of appearance on the skin, and can appear anywhere on the body. KP is not life threatening in any way; neither is it contagious, however it is aesthetically displeasing to the eye. I originally set out on a mission to find a natural care regimen to improve my condition, and in the process I discovered a unique combination of ingredients that not only helps with KP, but also with body Acne, ingrown hairs, uneven complexions, scaly skin, Eczema, Psoriasis, and other skin conditions. I am a believer in Emmaus because it has restored my skin, and I now enjoy smooth, supple, and clear skin. "- Aminah Sagoe - Founder

Smiling Beads Body Wash

This body wash has several great ingredients including Glycolic and Salicylic acids. In my opinion, chemical exfoliation using acids is gentler but way more effective than physical exfoliation. It penetrates the layers of your skin to get rid of dead, dull skin. I’ve been using this with my exfoliating gloves and I feel my skin getting a proper deep cleanse every time I shower with it as compared to my regular shower gel! Since it contains acids, it’s recommended to use it 2-3 tones a week!

Touch of Love Exfoliating Liquid

You know how toning is the next step after cleansing with facial skincare, Touch of Love is a toner for the body. This is the first time I’ve come across such a product and it was really fascinating to use. It also contains Glycolic and Salicylic, so I only use this on days I haven’t used the body wash because my skin doesn't take too well to over exfoliation. However the brand recommends using it with the body wash so I'm sure it is perfectly OK to do so, this is just my personal preference. Once I get out of the shower, I apply the product to a clean flannel and use all over my body and I've found that similar to a toner, it offers an extra level of cleansing by removing any residues post cleansing. This is also recommended for use only 2-3 times a week

Softness Bliss Body Lotion

This is a body lotion that again has main ingredients- Glycolic and Salicylic acids. Emmaus Beauty sure love their Alpha Hydroxyl Acids! AHAs are great for cell renewal/turnover which leads to clearer and brighter skin. The lotion also contains other amazing ingredients such as Coconut Oil, Sunflower Oil, Baobab Oil, Grapeseed Oil and Shea Butter. I like the lotion, it’s very light which is perfect in this weather but very moisturising. This product is OK for daily use.

Price and Where to Buy

I'm not even going to try to front and say that this stuff is affordable because it is NOT! This 3-product bundle costs $150! While the products and ingredients are excellent quality, I feel like it will only truly be worth raking out your coins if you are dealing with skincare problems like body acne or Keratosis Pilaris (KP) as highlighted by the brand. Often times, to see great results when dealing with problematic skin, you need to invest in high-end skincare products such as this.

If you would like to get your hands on any Emmaus Beauty products, you can purchase from their website- www.emmausbeauty.com or at Alara on Akin Olugbade in Victoria Island, Lagos. .
